Dog Training and Walking
Happy Dog, Happy Life

About Me
Hello, my name is Josh Kay and I am a certified dog trainer. For several years, much of my free time had been dedicated to volunteering at multiple animal shelters and working with dogs of all sizes and breeds. I have learned from the experienced shelter staffs as well as Animal Behavior College, the school which granted me my certification. I am also certified in Pet CPR. I now make it my mission to offer affordable rates to help as many dogs and people as I can through services including basic obedience training and behavior modification. I assist with issues such as destructive chewing, housetraining, jumping, pulling, teaching commands, and much more.

My journey into becoming a dog trainer began with Lola, my mom's golden doodle. While visiting my mom a few years ago, I noticed something strange with Lola. Her head and tail were consistently pointing downward, she seemed to be avoiding looking at people, and she was oddly distant. She didn't seem like the Lola I knew. I quickly found myself researching the subject of depression in dogs and how to treat it. It didn't take long after I began to work with her that she started displaying visible signs of improvement. I knew then that I wanted to continue to work with dogs to improve their lives.
Shortly after Lola began to make progress, I started volunteering at North Shore Animal League America (NSALA) where I've had the opportunity to work with a lot of great people and a lot of great dogs. One of those dogs, Maggie, even ended up coming home with me. I have earned multiple recognition awards for the time and work I've put in with NSALA. I have also volunteered with the Babylon Animal Adoption Rescue Center (BAARC) where I had the opportunity to meet many more great people and dogs. I hope to meet you and your dog next!

Choosing A Trainer
It can be difficult to choose the proper trainer for you and your dog in part because there are no formal requirements for a person to call themself a dog trainer. While certification is not mandatory, it's certainly a valuable tool for finding the right trainer.
In the case of Animal Behavior College Certified Dog Trainers (ABCDT) such as myself, the process of gaining certification consists of nine units of study with accompanying exams, a final exam, and a hands-on externship in which you are partnered up with an established trainer who evaluates your performance. The college's curriculum centers around positivity based training. These methods are not only more effective than negativity based training, but more importantly they ensure no physical or psychological harm comes to your dog.
In choosing a certified dog trainer, you are reducing your risk by ensuring that your selected trainer has credibly and effectively demonstrated their understanding of the field.

Why Hire A Dog Walker?
A Tired Dog Is A Well Behaved Dog!

Many dog owners don't realize their dogs aren't recieving a sufficient amount of daily exercise and as a result they may not see the value of a dog walker. They may let their dog roam around in the backyard in the morning before they go to work and then again in the afternoon when they come home. While this may be adequate for some dogs from the standpoint of going to the bathroom, it typically doesn't provide enough physical activity.

A lack of physical exercise can create or contribute to behavioral issues as your dog isn't being given the proper setting to to expend their energy in a healthy way. This can result in behaviors including, but not limited to nipping, digging, inappropriate chewing, and barking. It's especially important to ensure sufficient exercise to younger and more active dogs and particularly those of medium or large size, but ultimately these undersirable behaviors can occur in dogs of all ages and sizes. A tired dog is a well behaved dog!
